Liverpool's hopes of landing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have been futile but his transfer could open the door for Richard Hughes to complete a dream deal.

It was never going to be a straightforward piece of business for the Reds. The Georgian had been close to agreeing a deal to leave Napoli for PSG in the summer before the French side swooped again.

The Reds clearly explored a potential deal for the winger, but in the end Liverpool's interest never materialised in an offer for Kvaratskhelia.

Instead, he's now completed a €70m deal (Eurosport) to join PSG and has already donned the famous colours of the French team.

For Liverpool fans the deal will be a huge disappointment. However, there may be a silver lining.

Why Kvaratskhelia's transfer opens door for Liverpool to sign Bradley Barcola

It's quite clear Liverpool are still in the hunt for a left-winger. Luis Diaz faces an uncertain future at Anfield as he enters the last two years of his contract.

Arne Slot meanwhile wants quick and direct wingers who carry the ball effectively and have a prowess in one vs one situations.

That's why the Reds' interest for Kvaratskhelia made sense. However, he is not the only left-winger with that profile on the market.

In fact, as he moves to PSG, one of his teammates who is also a left-winger could now be on the market in Bradley Barcola.

The 22-year-old left-winger completed a €45m deal to join PSG back in the summer of 2023 (Football Transfers). At the time he had interest from Liverpool as well.

He's been a huge hit in Paris, having already made 30 goal contributions in 66 appearances for the club, including 14 in 18 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

But now Barcola faces an uncertain future with Kvaratskhelia's arrival. Given the amount PSG spent on the Georgian it's obvious he will be the outright starter in the left-wing role.

That leaves Barcola's place in the starting line-up vulnerable. He can play on the right wing, but PSG already have Kang-in Lee, Ousmane Dembele and Marcos Asensio who can play in that role.

Given this uncertainty around his future, Liverpool should look to pounce. Barcola would be the perfect fit for Slot and his ability to play on the right could also come in very handy.

It could be the biggest silver lining from this Kvaratskhelia deal.
