Liverpool are facing up to the prospect of losing Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season and is now free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with any potentially interested overseas teams.

Chief among the interested parties are reported to be Real Madrid, with Trent’s good friend from the England camp Jude Bellingham already starring for the Bernabeu outfit.

The appeal is strong and Madrid have ALREADY made an approach to sign Alexander-Arnold. Despite being entitled to hold talks directly with the player and his entourage, the Spanish champions instead offered Liverpool the chance to sell the 26-year-old this winter.

Owing to an injury to Dani Carvajal, Real are desperate to reinforce their right-back slot and are willing to bring forward their plans to sign Alexander-Arnold.

But that offer was rejected by the Reds, who are instead planning on completing the season with Trent in the ranks.

There are arguments either way for keeping Trent through the rest of the season or else selling him.

The advantages of having Alexander-Arnold in your corner are obvious. His playmaking and chance creation are irreplaceable. He makes a huge difference from right-back, as his two recent assists against Newcastle would show.

There are few players in the world who can control a game from right-back like Alexander-Arnold and the Reds probably have a better chance of winning titles with him than without.

But Liverpool are facing the prospect of losing Alexander-Arnold for nothing at the end of the season. Having invested so much time and money into his development, they will have nothing to show for it come the season’s end. There is a possibility that Madrid come back in for Trent before the end of the window, and there are plenty of reasons for the Reds to consider a sale.

What way do you think Liverpool should go when it comes to Alexander-Arnold? To keep until the end of the season and risk losing him on a free or else sell in January for a half-decent price?
