Liverpool transfers: Barella back on the table amid Inter financial difficulty
Liverpool's midfield overhaul could be completed this summer, with the club reportedly set to reignite interest in Internazionale's Nicolo Barella.
The 27-year-old, who has just won Serie A with the Milan side, has established himself as one of the top midfielders in world football in recent years.
The Reds' interest in Barella has been longstanding, with heavy scouting preceding last summer's transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.
Now, though, adding a player of the calibre of Barella would undoubtedly complete the midfield shakeup.
Klopp is a big fan of Barella
A move for Barella would rekindle long-term admiration on the part of outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp's admiration for Barella was evident as far back as 2022 when, ahead of a Champions League clash between Inter and Liverpool, Klopp lauded the Italian midfielder.
He said: “That Barella is not able to play is not bad for us.
“He’s a really good player, a really good player and I like him a lot.
“He has all the things you want from a midfield player. He is aggressive, he is technical, he can run for ages and all these kinds of things. That’s a top-class player.”
Inter in financial difficulties
Despite signing four new midfielders last summer, with Thiago Alcantara's contract set to expire, Liverpool could come back in for Barella, particularly now that Inter find themselves under financial constraints yet again.
According to Fichajes, the new Serie A champions still need to offload players, as they did with Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku in the past few years, to help balance their books and repay their outstanding debts.
Despite being a key player this year, Barella has emerged as a prime candidate to be sold because of the fee he would command.
Valued at between €60m and €80 million, Liverpool wouldn't be the only interested party.
Other European giants, such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, are also believed to be monitoring the situation.
