Nunez hasn't quite fully delivered on expectations at Anfield despite some promising moments that will make him go down as a cult figure among supporters.
However, at the moment he is struggling to fight himself into Arne Slot's starting line-up and it's clear Liverpool will look to replace him with another attacker in the coming months.
And there's one player who could be the perfect fit.
Why Charles De Ketelaere is like Roberto Firmino and why he could replace Darwin Nunez
Liverpool will want to replace Nunez with someone a little bit more mobile and flexible - someone who also has composure at the same time. Someone like Roberto Firmino, and there is a player like that playing in the Serie A at the moment.
His name is Charles De Ketelaere, and he is on a mission to revive his career after struggling at AC Milan. He's doing just that with 21 goal contributions for Atlanta already this season.
De Ketelaere is a special profile. He's someone who can play in a variety of different roles - he can play centrally as a forward, but he can also be pushed to play out wide.
Despite his 1.92 metre frame, he's a very skilful player with a brilliant technique and one vs one ability.
An industry insider from a Serie A club who worked with De Ketelaere has described the Belgian international to Anfield Watch as someone who could be a perfect fit for Liverpool under Slot if they wanted a Firmino type attacker.
One of the reasons why is because he presses well and he's good at linking up play - with natural speed and added height - he's basically like Firmino and Nunez combined.
Richard Hughes spent a lot of his youth in Italy and he is well aware of the Serie A. That's probably one of the reasons why Liverpool wanted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
No doubt he will be aware of De Ketelaere's name as well. At 23 years old, he is at the perfect age for FSG with still lots of room to develop and grow.
Knowing how good Slot is at bringing out the maximum in his player, the prospect of bring a gem like De Ketelaere to Anfield is mouthwatering.
He makes sense as the ideal player to replace Nunez.
