New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has already discussed Feyenoord superstar Santiago Gimenez amid links over a potential move to Anfield for the Mexican.

Gimenez teamed up with Slot at Feyenoord in 2022 and helped fire the Rotterdam club to Eredivisie glory in his debut season with 15 goals in 32 matches.

That tally increased last season as the 23-year-old, who was born in Buenos Aires, netted 23 times and produced six assists in just 30 league matches as Feyenoord finished runners-up to PSV Eindhoven.

Gimenez has attracted interest from Europe's top sides for some time and has been strongly linked with Tottenham, but rumours over a potential Anfield switch have intensified since Slot's arrival on Merseyside.

ARNE SLOT VOUCHES FOR SANTIAGO GIMENEZ

According to CaughtOffside, Slot has already discussed Gimenez with Liverpool during early talks with the club over Feyenoord players that had potential to thrive in the Premier League.

They suggest that Liverpool are 'in the race' for his signature alongside Spurs and their north London rivals Arsenal, both of whom are keen to reinforce their forward lines in the coming months.

Approaches for Gimenez have already been made according to the report, although which clubs have supposedly made proposals is unclear.

Liverpool are expected to add a new attacker to their squad this summer but it's more likely to be a winger than a traditional number nine.

However, if Darwin Nunez were to leave Liverpool this summer amid reports of his unhappiness and links with Barcelona, the Reds would have to find a new centre-forward in the market.

According to past reports, Feyenoord would only consider selling Gimenez for an astronomical sum. With his contract expiring in 2027, they are in no rush to make a sale.

In fact, Feyenoord would be keen to make the Mexico international the most expensive Eredivisie transfer of all time, surpassing the £87m paid by Manchester United for Ajax's Antony.

However, a recent claim from Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport (via SempreMilan) suggests that Milan could persuade Feyenoord to part ways with Gimenez for as little as €50m (£42.6m).
