Liverpool transfers: Journalist now believes Reds will sign Anthony Gordon
Journalist Mark Ogden has revealed that he believes Newcastle will strike a deal that allows Anthony Gordon to leave the club and come to Liverpool this summer.
There has been plenty of links surrounding the player which first started a few weeks ago as Newcastle offered him to Liverpool when they needed to sell.
That was due to PSR reasons but they asked for Jarell Quansah in return so therefore the deal got rejected.
Not long ago though it was reported that the two clubs had struck up an agreement allowing Joe Gomez to join Newcastle.
Both players had medicals booked in Leipzig during Euro 2024 but in the end, it didn’t go ahead as Eddie Howe allowed other players to be sold to ease their PSR concerns.
Elliot Anderson went to Nottingham Forest while one-time Arne Slot star Yankuba Minteh joined Brighton.
However, it is possible that they could still seek to sell one of their star players.
NEWCASTLE NEED MONEY TO ADD TO THEIR SQUAD
Speaking to ESPN Ogden explained why a deal could very much still be on the cards.
He said: “Anthony Gordon is a player that Liverpool like and I think that deal might happen before the window closes at the end of August.”
When asked why Newcastle would let Gordon leave he said: “Well Newcastle would get the money to come in and add to the squad in terms of signing players, Newcastle like a lot of clubs are not struggling with PSR but they need to move people around.
“Liverpool are keen on Anthony Gordon and Gordon I've been told he's keen on going to Liverpool.
"We've got a month to go before the window closes, Liverpool needs to get some players in you can't change the manager, a big manager like [Jurgen] Klopp and not bring players in.”
The Reds are the only club in the top five European Leagues so far who have not signed a player but they are on the verge of bringing one player in from Chelsea.
