Liverpool’s fantastic start to the season has been somewhat overshadowed by the contract situation of three of the club’s biggest stars.

Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are all out of contract at the end of the season and, as it stands, will all leave for free in the summer.

Whilst reports suggest that contract negotiations are under way for Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, the situation with Salah seems to be a bit more complicated.

Some reports have even suggested that negotiations have broken down between Salah and the club.

Saudi Arabia is the most speculated destination for Salah should he chose to leave Merseyside, but a new report from Egypt has offered a positive update for supporters.

Salah’s priority is still to sign a new deal at Liverpool

The report from Masrawy claims that Salah is not in any talks with Saudi teams, and that “the door is closed so far” on a move to the Saudi Pro League.

The report also confirms that Salah’s priority is to remain at Anfield and to sign a contract extension with Liverpool.

If an agreement can’t be reached, Salah is reportedly willing to listen to the proposal of Paris Saint Germain, who could also offer the Egyptian monster wages.

PSG have been linked with Salah previously and he could prove the ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who left the French capital to join Real Madrid this summer.

If negotiations are underway between Salah and the club, and the player’s priority is indeed to remain at Anfield, then a new deal starts to seem more likely.

Salah’s impressive start to the campaign

Despite all the off-pitch turmoil currently surrounding Salah’s Liverpool career, the forward has been in red-hot form on the pitch this season.

The Egyptian King has 18 goal involvements in his first 16 games and has been absolutely crucial to Liverpool’s early success under Arne Slot.

If any of the uncertainty about his future is playing on his mind, he hasn’t let it show, and all season he has upheld his high standards of professionalism.

Supporters will be optimistic that an agreement can be reached between the player and the club and that Salah can continue to light up the Premier League for years to come at Anfield.
