Liverpool transfers: Mo Salah endorses reported Andy Robertson successor

Liverpool could well face a reckoning in the left-back position sooner rather than later with Andy Robertson showing signs of wear and tear and Kostas Tsimikas not regarded as a sufficient long-term replacement.

Robertson, who turns 31 before the end of this season, played only 30 matches overall last season owing to various injuries and has been used relatively sparingly by new head coach Arne Slot this term.

Tsimikas has started more games than he might have expected with Robertson also hauled off on a booking during last week's Champions League victory against Bologna and Slot admitting he was worried the Scot would be given a second yellow.

The Dutchman also opted to use Tsimikas from the beginning against Crystal Palace at the weekend and the Greek full-back repaid his coach's faith by contributing to Diogo Jota's goal.

The Reds could well be in the market for a suitable long-term replacement at the end of the season and Fulham defender Antonee Robinson has long been regarded as one of the names in the frame.

Robinson in frame for Liverpool

Robinson, 27, is an Everton academy graduate and was linked with a move to Anfield last January when Liverpool were facing an injury crisis at left-back.

He remained in West London however and is now established as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

This season he has provided two assists in seven outings for Marco Silva's side and has earned the plaudits for his pace, work-rate and defensive ability.

Salah ENDORSES Antonee Robinson

He was named Fulham's man of the match in a thrilling 4-3 Liverpool victory at Anfield last season, passing his audition in front of the home crowd, and has previously received the endorsement from none other than Reds attacking legend Mohamed Salah.

Robinson has played on the same side of the pitch as Salah throughout his time in the Premier League and has revealed in an interview with the Athletic that the Egyptian King was left stunned after one performance in particular against him.

"We played Liverpool in the first game of the season two years ago," he said. "We drew 2-2. I remember saying to my friends, who are all big Liverpool fans and came down because it was around my birthday, ‘Lads, if Salah scores or gets an assist this game, I’ll pay for dinner tonight’, so I put a bit of added pressure on myself. And he did, annoyingly.

“But I remember him saying to me midway through the game, ‘How old are you?’. So he didn’t really know who I was. I must have been 24, 25. He just nodded and carried on with the game. Then, after the game, I asked for his shirt, so we swapped shirts and we were just chatting and he was like, ‘You were the best player this game, keep up what you’re doing’. That was very nice of him.”

Robinson open to Fulham switch

United States international Robinson admitted over the summer that he WOULD leave Craven Cottage if the right bid materialised having signed a new contract back in 2023.

"I signed the deal because I was very happy at Fulham. I want to keep on developing, I’m very settled here, I love the club. It wasn’t a difficult decision to sign," he said.

"Interest from other people is great... Obviously, it comes down to if someone wanted me enough to pay what Fulham would want, and if Fulham saw that as a good idea, then I’d leave.

"But until that happens, and I have no idea if it would, I’m just looking forward to the Copa America and then starting next year with Fulham — pushing on, and trying to help the team get to even better finishing spots."
