Liverpool transfers: Salah 'not the same player' and should be sold says ex-Red

Mohamed Salah has been urged to QUIT Liverpool in the event that the Reds can attract a significant transfer fee this summer.

The club managed to fend off a bid from Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League during last year’s summer transfer window, retaining the services of the Egyptian despite a money-laden onslaught.

Salah went on to top score for Liverpool again this season, scoring 25 times overall and taking his total to 211 in seven seasons at Anfield.

However the goal stats don’t tell the whole story with the 31-year-old’s form suffering following a hamstring tear suffered at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

He subsequently suffered a re-injury on his comeback in February, appearing a shadow of himself at times as Liverpool slipped out of contention for the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.

Salah scored most of his goals before his initial injury struck, with Jurgen Klopp even dropping him to the bench for the visit to West Ham in April.

Salah contract only has 12 months remaining

That decision backfired with the duo falling out on the touchline as Salah was about to be brought on as a late substitute.

A poor 2024 has led to speculation that the Reds’ new transfer team - comprising Richard Hughes as sporting director and Michael Edwards, the new CEO of Football for FSG - might well seek to cash in

With Salah having only 12 months on his deal, this summer represents Liverpool’s final opportunity to garner a big fee for their superstar striker.

The latest indicuations out of Saudi Arabia are that interested clubs are prepared to wait until 2025 and take Salah at the end of his Liverpool contract but if there’s an opportunity for a deal to be struck then the club must take it.

Lawrenson: Salah needs a change of club

That’s according to Mark Lawrenson, a club legend who won five league titles during his time as a player as well as the European Cup.

“I have a feeling that Mohamed Salah will go,” he said according to Best Online Poker Sites

“I just think that Saudi Arabia would be the logical place for him to move to. He’s not been the same since he came back from AFCON and you could see towards the end of the season that he seemed a little bit miffed – he just didn’t seem to be the same player.

“If Liverpool could get £100 million for him from the Saudi Pro League, I think I would take it considering the circumstances.

“Salah’s been absolutely brilliant for Liverpool over the years, but he looks like he might need a change of club and I personally wouldn’t get in the way of that out of respect for him.”
