Liverpool transfers: Reds identify Juventus star Chiesa as Salah replacement
Juventus are hoping to tie Federico Chiesa down to a new deal before the upcoming European Championship as they fear Liverpool's interest in their star forward, whose contract expires in 2025.
That’s according to Tuttosport, which claims Liverpool are among the teams looking at the 26-year-old, with a replacement for Mohamed Salah on the cards for either this summer or next.
A strong performance for Luciano Spalletti’s defending champions at the Euros could pile the pressure on Juve from an economic standpoint, with Chiesa’s entourage likely to exact a high sum in any renewal negotiations.
That is why the Italians are determined to sort the issue before Chiesa jets off to Germany with the Azzurri. If no agreement is reached then the Reds could swoop in, according to the report.
Chiesa has scored seven times and provided two assists in 28 Serie A matches this season. Juve are on a difficult run of form, winning only two of their last 12 league games, but are placed third in the Italian top flight and will return to the Champions League next season.
Salah, 31, has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League ahead of the transfer window with Al-Ittihad failing with a bid of over £100 million for the Egyptian last summer.
The SPL looks determined to make one more big effort in order to add Salah as the league’s flagship player.
All change at Anfield this summer
It could be an off-season involving plenty of change around Anfield with Jurgen Klopp set to leave his role as manager at the end of the campaign.
Incoming sporting director Richard Hughes will have a bulging in-tray, with contract talks required for Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, who are all out of contract in 2025.
It could represent Liverpool’s last chance to cash in on Salah, scorer of over 200 goals for the club since joining from Roma back in 2017.
