However, the club's new sporting director looks like he may ramp up his efforts in the coming months.

Not only does Hughes need to resolve the future of Salah but Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold as well with the trio all having expiring contracts at the end of the season.

At the same time, Hughes also needs to plan for the future and identify potential replacements. Which is exactly what he seems to be doing with Salah.

Liverpool eye Gabriel Pec as potential Mo Salah replacement

According to CaughtOffside Liverpool have started to monitor the progress of Brazilian winger Gabriel Pec, who is currently making waves in MLS.

Pec arrived in MLS from Vasco da Gama back in January, signing for LA Galaxy, and has enjoyed a sensational debut campaign in the league.

The 23-year-old has 21 goals and 18 assists in 40 matches in all competitions this season, which is a remarkable return and it's no surprise Liverpool are considering a move for him.

MLS recently has become a hotbed for burgeoning talent. From Jhon Duran to Alphonso Davies it has helped a myriad of young talents break into European football from both South and North America.

Pec is a left-footed right-winger so it's easy to see why Liverpool would be looking at him considering just how uncertain Salah's future is at the club.

Who is Gabriel Pec? And could he be the right fit for Liverpool?

Pec has been gradually making his mark in Brazilian football and finally had his breakthrough in 2023, notching up 14 goals and registering five assists.

That earned him a move to MLS where he has taken his performances to the next level.

On paper there are many similarities with Salah. He's a brilliant winger who can cut into his stronger foot from the right and make an impact in the final third.

He's also very direct and thrives in one vs one situations.

Is he ready to move to the Premier League and play for Liverpool immediately after catching the eye in MLS? The answer is no. Both Davies and Duran needed time to settle at Bayern and Aston Villa, respectively.

However, the duo is proof investing in MLS prospects can be a wise one in the long-term.
