Zubimendi's choice merely allowed Ryan Gravenberch to come out of his shell and flourish becoming one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.

Looking back at what could have been, Liverpool will have no regrets. Especially, because the squad is well stocked and there are more and more young talents coming through ready to break into Slot's first team.

The next one of those just proved he could well be a Zubimendi regen in years to come.

Stefan Bajcetic shows Zubimendi quality on Las Palmas debut

Liverpool's young midfielder has had a torrid time over the course of the last 18 months. From a persistent injury to a really difficult six month loan spell in Salzburg.

Now, though, Bajcetic is looking to get his career back on track and he's doing that at Las Palmas in La Liga.

Still only 20 years old, Liverpool have high hopes for Bajcetic who showed his exciting potential as a mere teenager in Jurgen Klopp's first team back in the 2022/23 season.

Brought in from Celta Vigo, Bajcetic has a lot of the qualities that Zubimendi has. He is technically brilliant, capable of covering a lot of ground and reads the game really well.

Bajcetic showed that in flashes at Salzburg and in pre-season but he needs more regular minutes and for that Las Palmas could be the perfect destination.

The Liverpool midfielder will be taking on tough opponents week in week out in Spain's top flight and he will have the opportunity to prove his worth again.

He's already started to do that on his debut coming on against Girona in the second half of Las Palmas' game on Monday night.

Playing 24 minutes, Bajcetic was very productive completing 16 out of 18 passes, and earned a lot of praise from the club's supporters as well.

A lot of the fans praised Bajcetic's performance for his ability to change the rhythm of the game when he came on. This is why Slot wanted Zubimendi.

He needed someone who can control the midfield and be incisive in his passing. We know Bajcetic can do all of that. He's just yet to have been able to show it more recently.

In Salzburg, he was playing in a chaotic team. But at Las Palmas he will be playing in the Spanish system, that honed Zubimendi. That experience will be very beneficial to him.

More than five years, Zubimendi's junior, Bajcetic still has a lot of time to catch up to the Spaniard. A strong next six months will put him on the right track.

And Liverpool should continue to persist with him because sooner or later they will have a player of Zubimendi's ilk ready to make the next step into the first team.
