Liverpool transfers: Joe Gomez and Luis Diaz wanted by Saudi Pro League clubs

Liverpool are set for a significant overhaul this summer in their first post-Jurgen Klopp transfer window.

Sporting director Richard Hughes and FSG’s new CEO of Football Michael Edwards will be overseeing incomings and outgoings with Arne Slot also entering the club as head coach.

There have been plenty of names linked with an Anfield arrival but equally there will be some high-profile departures.

The likes of Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip have already gone as their contracts expire while backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher admitted this week he wants out

Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, is a reported target for Al-Ittihad, although Saudi clubs are prepared to wait a year for the likes of Salah and Kevin De Bruyne.

And now comes the news that powerbrokers in the Saudi Pro League are keen on another two Liverpool players, with Sadio Mane, Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino already strutting their stuff in the emerging league.

SPL wants Gomez and Diaz

Joe Gomez is known to be open to a Liverpool exit this summer and although it was felt that he would seek a move back to London, he is on the shopping list for the SPL, according to the Daily Mail, with the league working hard to reduce the average age of their big-name signings.

Gomez, 27, is the sole survivor of the entire Klopp era and is under contract until 2027. Despite that, he could take the opportunity to move on following a season where he demonstrated his versatility in a utility-man role.

He played 51 games overall, filling in at right back, left back, centre back and defensive midfield.

Also targeted is Luis Diaz, who moved to Liverpool for £37.5 million back in 2022 from Porto.

Diaz is still on the same contract he signed back then, which also expires in 2027, and the Reds have not yet offered the Colombian improved terms.

He has been linked with Barcelona although the Catalans are unlikely to be able to afford the 27-year-old.

Consequently Liverpool could find a willing buyer in the Saudi Pro League this summer and cash in on a left winger who has also been associated with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
