Why Luis Diaz's Liverpool days are NUMBERED

Liverpool have scored 50 goals this campaign so far, and we aren't even halfway through.

Mohamed Salah has taken charge once again, leading the way with 16 goals across all competitions, while the other members of the team have chipped in the rest.

The players' efforts have left Liverpool in a remarkable position, leading the way in both the Champions League and the Premier League.

However, the general feeling around the team is that Liverpool may be morphing into a 'one-man team'.

Salah usually takes centre stage in Liverpool's attack because he's the Reds' best player who has delivered consistently high attacking numbers year after year.

While the other forwards have largely taken their chances this season, some players are notably underperforming in the side - Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

With regard to Nunez, although he's visibly low on confidence, his general output for Liverpool has never lived up to the expectations we all had of him after making the move to Merseyside for £85m. His time is likely to be running out, but he seems to taking all the flack.

Diaz on the other hand is getting off scot-free and he's not much better.

Diaz's underwhelming season after a promising start

Scoring nine of Liverpool's goals is hardly a problem for Diaz, but his involvement in the team is starting to be problematic.

He's found the goal in just five games this season, one of which was a hat-trick in the Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen, however, he has failed to score in the 410 minutes he's played since.

While Liverpool's form has not dipped during this drought, that can be predominantly put down to Salah, who has scored seven in the six games Liverpool have played following the Leverkusen thumping.

So far, we are getting away with it, but the Colombian's lack of output will eventually cost us.

Liverpool to cut their losses with Diaz?

Often when a winger finds himself in poor form, the club simply has to wait until it comes back and deal with the consequences in the meantime.

But for Luis Diaz, a notably hot and cold player, at a club like Liverpool, who also have Cody Gakpo waiting in the wings on that left-hand side, the Colombian's days may be numbered.

His current contract runs until 2027, and reports are that he is increasingly disgruntled that he is still on the low wages that he agreed to in his initial contract.

However, if he is unable to turn his season around, after what was a positive start, he will soon be on Liverpool's radar for the wrong reasons, with sporting director Richard Hughes looking at different alternatives.

Current transfer rumours suggest that Diaz is fancied at a number of different clubs in Europe, and at 27, he still has plenty to give in his career.

But in the position that Liverpool find themselves in, fighting on all fronts for trophy success this year, the club can afford to be cutthroat, and any passengers in the team will be quickly found out.

Since Nunez's form has become almost nonexistent in recent weeks, Arne Slot has attempted to reinvent Diaz as a sort of hybrid centre-forward, who has the freedom to roam into empty space, wherever it may be.

This may prove to be beneficial to his attacking output across the next few weeks as the Reds play five games in the next 19 days. Otherwise his long-term future will be up for discussion.
