Liverpool transfers: Leny Yoro speaks out after being linked with Man Utd move

Reports earlier this week emerged suggesting that Lille had accepted a bid from Manchester United for Liverpool transfer target Leny Yoro.

Although the France under-21 international has a preference for Real Madrid, Lille are under no illusions that any failure to agree a sale this summer risks losing their homegrown talent for free next year.

Yoro, 18, is out of contract in 2025 and could well run down his contract at Lille in order to get a move to his favoured destination next summer.

To that extent the French Ligue 1 side are prepared to listen to bids this year and Liverpool are ready to pick up the pieces regarding Yoro if Madrid fail to get the deal done.

The centre back is one of the few confirmed Liverpool transfer targets this summer, even if the Reds know they are second favourites at best for Yoro’s signature.

Following the news of Man United’s bid a fake account using Yoro’s name posted a message on X, formerly Twitter, stating that he did not want a move to Old Trafford.

“I don’t want you @ManUtd,” the account declared. “Leave me alone.”

Yoro made a rare public comment on his transfer destiny, imploring users of the social media site to report the account and admonishing the admin for posting under his name.

“Fake account,” he wrote. “You guys are psycho. Signal this account.”

It’s not clear where the French Ligue 1 team of the year nominee will be playing his football next season but his long-term future could well lie at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool require centre back reinforcements this summer with Joel Matip out of contract and the future of Virgil van Dijk up in the air.

The Reds will take Sepp van den Berg on their pre-season tour to the United States to boost numbers in that department, even though the club have set a £20 million asking price for the Wolfsburg and Mainz target
