Liverpool transfers blow as Kvaratskhelia ready to sign new Napoli contract

There has been a decisive breakthrough around the future of Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with it being reported that he is now ready to sign a new contract.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, which carries quotes from the Georgian’s agent stating that the player's destiny is now in Napoli’s hands.

It would mark a stunning turnaround for the reported Liverpool transfer target whose father earlier this summer declared that the wide man would be seeking to quit Napoli during the off-season.

‘Kvaradona’ was reported to be unhappy with having FOUR coaches in one year for the deposed Serie A champions.

Antonio Conte, the new man in charge at the Diego Maradona Stadium, has identified Kvaratskhelia as a key figure in his team and meetings have taken place in recent weeks around a renewal.

The 23-year-old is under contract at Napoli until 2027 and had previously been reported to be unhappy with the disparity between his own contract and that of strike partner Victor Osimhen

The Nigerian commands a salary of over €10 million whereas Kvara’s deal - signed in 2022 - is worth €1.5m.

Paris Saint-Germain are now reported to have been turned down in a €200m attempt to sign both Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen but have been rebuffed by Napoli.

Kvaratskhelia is now deemed non-transferable by his club and his agent Mamuka Jugeli has confirmed that a new deal is on the table.

There have been conversations between the player’s representatives and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Germany during Euro 2024 this summer.

Kvara's Napoli conversations

Another meeting is reported to have taken place in Milan last week between Kvaratskhelia’s agent and new sporting director Giovanni Manna.

Although Napoli won’t be in the Champions League next season following a poor defence of their title, Kvaratskhelia remains focussed on securing silverware for his club.

"Kvaratskhelia without Champions League? Then he wants to win the championship,” Jugeli told Russian journalist Nobel Arustamyan.

“For the future everything depends on the president of Napoli. If he thinks of selling Kvara, he will do it. If he wants the renewal, he will renew.”

Liverpool's Diaz doubts

Following those initial talks, Napoli are now awaiting a reply from the winger’s camp.

Liverpool are listed alongside PSG and Barcelona as suitors for Kvaratskhelia with question marks over Luis Diaz’s long-term future and a potential left-wing spot available in Arne Slot’s squad

However, should a new deal be agreed it looks like sporting director Richard Hughes may well have to look elsewhere for his first big-name signing.
