Liverpool had a relatively quiet summer transfer window with only Federico Chiesa joining the club ahead of the 2024-25 season.

His transfer fee could end up being around £12 million having signed from Juventus on a permanent basis.

Another summer transfer, Giorgi Mamardashvili, could end up costing £29m if all add-ons and bonuses are met. The goalkeeper is on loan at Valencia until the end of the season and will join up with his new teammates on Merseyside next summer.

That was not a massive outlay for a club of Liverpool’s size with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United easily outspending the Reds.

FSG reluctant to spend

Plus, those incomings were effectively paid for through a summer sales spree with Liverpool banking significant fees for Sepp van den Berg, Fabio Carvalho and Bobby Clark.

Fans have grown frustrated with Fenway Sports Group’s reluctance to splash the cash but have become accustomed to how to FSG does business.

In order to buy there must first be sales and the latest indications are that the club owners could AGAIN to seek to fund spending by offloading some first-team stars first.

Due to an adverse financial outlook it has been suggested that players such as Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott and Trent Alexander-Arnold could well be sacrificed in the upcoming transfer periods.

However other players have also been linked with the exit and those sales could well end up coming to fruition.

Nunez and Tsimikas wanted by Simeone

Darwin Nunez and Kostas Tsimikas were among four Reds linked with a summer exit to Barcelona - alongside Carvalho and Diaz. Those deals didn’t come to pass but transfer rumours around the pair haven’t quietened down.

Nunez has failed to take his chance to become Arne Slot’s No.1 centre-forward during Diogo Jota’s injury absence and it’s been mooted that the Uruguayan could finally be axed from the squad.

Meanwhile, Tsimikas is the long-term understudy to Andy Robertson but has never really demonstrated that he can make the grade as a first choice.

Now comes the report from Atletico Universe that Atletico Madrid scouts were spotted at Girona’s Champions League game against Liverpool on Tuesday night with Nunez one of the players in their sights.

Kerkez, Joao Pedro and Marmoush wanted

While Tsimikas is injured, he is also reported to be of interest to Diego Simeone’s in-form team, who have rotated the left-back slot so far this season. There is every chance that Simeone’s staff will have been further impressed by Miguel Gutierrez too, another reported Liverpool target.

And if Liverpool can bank considerable fees for the duo then that money could well be reinvested for Arne Slot.

A left-back would be a welcome addition to the squad with Milos Kerkez reported to be top of the wishlist while forwards in the form of Omar Marmoush and Joao Pedro have also been linked.

It remains to be seen if Nunez and Tsimikas have a future at Anfield or if they will be cleared out to make room for fresh faces like Kerkez, Marmoush and Joao Pedro.
