Bayern Munich are close to finalising the signing of Joao Palhinha from Fulham for an initial €51 million, potentially rising to €56m should all add-ons be met.

The Portugal midfielder is currently at Euro 2024 with his national team but is expected to complete a four-year deal once the competition ends.

Bayern were close to signing Palhinha last summer but late in the window the move collapsed as Fulham failed to sign an adequate replacement.

The German giants have managed to keep their interest alive over the past year however with the deal now all set to go through imminently.

Bayern had trouble in the midfield area last season under Thomas Tuchel and ultimately slumped to a disappointing third-place Bundesliga finish.

There will be big changes around the club this summer with Vincent Kompany coming in as head coach and Max Eberl now installed as sporting director.

What Palhinha arrival means for Kimmich

Palhinha’s arrival could spell the end for Liverpool target Joshua Kimmich, who is out of contract in 2025 but whose departure wouldn’t come as a surprise this summer.

Kimmich, 29, is available for between €30m and €40m, according to German reports, and Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the clubs he would choose as his next destination.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that Palhinha’s Bayern arrival could have a big impact on Kimmich’s immediate future with Bayern having signed the midfield specialist they have desired for so long.

Romano says Kimmich likely to leave

“There has been a lot of speculation about Joshua Kimmich in particular as he’s in the final year of his contract at Bayern now, and some fans have asked me if Palhinha’s arrival means he’s replacing him.” Romano wrote on Caught Offside

“Let’s see what happens because Bayern have still a chance to extend Kimmich’s contract. Still, the most likely scenario at the moment is for Kimmich to leave and try a new experience, it will also depend on proposals because Kimmich will explore all the options available to him after the Euros.”
