In the end, that move never worked out with Frimpong opting to join Manchester City's academy instead because the drive to Liverpool would have been too long for his parents.

However, many years later, the 24-year-old could be set for a second chance, especially after an unknown revelation about him.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract situation up in the air, as we get closer and closer to the end of the season, the more likely it's looking like that he will leave on a free transfer.

Liverpool will need to fill Alexander-Arnold's void and Frimpong could be an ideal solution given how well he has done throughout his career so far.

Jeremie Frimpong's homegrown revelation

But there are other factors we need to take into account as well. First of all, Frimpong has a relatively affordable price according to reports.

TEAMtalk have recently claimed that he has a gentleman's agreement with Bayer Leverkusen that the club would consider offers of £33m in the upcoming summer transfer window.

That would make the Bundesliga title winner an absolute bargain. This season Frimpong already has 13 goal contributions from right-back in all competitions.

Last season he got 24 in 47 appearances and in 177 appearances in total, he has 67 goal contributions for Leverkusen.

That makes him an absolute bargain at £33m and the fact that he is Dutch could also be an advantageous factor for Liverpool given the likes of Cody Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch in the squad as well as Slot and his coaching staff being Dutch themselves.

But undoubtedly one of the biggest revelations about Frimpong that makes this move even likelier is the fact that he is homegrown.

A lot of people seem to brush over this fact because Frimpong established his career in Germany and because he plays for the Dutch national team.

But he grew up in England and spent his early career at Manchester City, which therefore qualifies him as a homegrown player.

This summer Liverpool could be losing a fair few homegrown players. Caoimhin Kelleher is almost certain to leave, Harvey Elliott's future is very much up in the air.

The same applies for Tyler Morton and Vitezslav Jaros. Meanwhile, as we've already mentioned Alexander-Arnold looks more likely to leave by the day.

That would leave Liverpool with just four homegrown players from a possible of eight, this being Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah.

Another one of those spots could be filled by Owen Beck, who is catching the eye on loan. But the reality is that Liverpool will need to bring in more homegrown stars.
