Liverpool’s attackers have enjoyed a wonderful start to their seasons for the most part.

In the opening 10 games of the season in all competitions, Mo Salah has six goals and five assists, Luis Diaz has five goals and an assist, Diogo Jota has four goals and two assists and Cody Gakpo has two goals and two assists to his name.

These are the levels we have come to expect from players at the club.

However, whisper it quietly, but Liverpool’s attack could look drastically different going forward. Mo Salah is yet to sign a new contract beyond the end of the season, and Liverpool are actively shopping for a myriad of attackers.

Darwin Nuñez is also apparently out of favour with new head coach Arne Slot, with rumours heavy of both his departure and Liverpool looking at central attacking options.

Between Diaz and Gakpo, though, the left-hand side seems to be set.

Liverpool scout Gittens

That’s why a new report by BILD stating that Liverpool are interested in Borussia Dortmund’s emerging English starlet Jamie Gittens comes as a surprise.

The report claims that the Reds have sent scouts to watch Gittens, but are already facing competition from Chelsea and Tottenham for the young winger.

Gittens, already valued at £30m, is truly making a name for himself this season, already racking up starts in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.

The 20-year old has played super sub multiple times, scoring both of Dortmund’s goals in a 2-0 win over Frankfurt back in August despite only being substituted on in the 58th minute.

He then repeated this act with the opening two goals in a 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League despite only playing the final 23 minutes of the game.

Gittens is certainly an exciting prospect and Liverpool would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn’t do due diligence on him. However, with Diaz nailing that starting role left winger role that Gittens has played at Dortmund this season, a shift back over the the right side could make more sense.

Diaz’s five goals are more than halfway to his Premier League-high total of eight and, with rumours of the club readying a contract extension for him, signing anything resembling a replacement is perplexing.

Gittens has played a significant amount of minutes on the right side, particularly last season, and enjoys a higher goal and assist rate per-90 there. If Salah is to leave, the young star could be first in line to replace him.
