Academy prospect Harvey Blair will leave Liverpool this summer as he seeks to progress his career to the next stage.

Blair, who shone during the pre-season tour in the USA this summer, will become the third promising youngster to leave the club this off-season.

Fabio Carvalho was allowed to complete a move to Brentford while Bobby Clark has joined former coach Pep Lijnders at Red Bull Salzburg, with many more departures also rumoured under new sporting director Richard Hughes.

According to David Lynch, Liverpool have agreed a surprising fee of just £300,000 with newly-promoted Championship side Portsmouth, which seems low for a player of his pedigree considering players like Carvalho and Clark left for many multiples of that fee.

His imminent exit marks the end of his nine-year Liverpool career with only one senior appearance to his name. That came in the Carabao Cup against Preston North End in October 2021.

A move to the Championship will enable him to gain experience in a tough and competitive league and establish himself, with Pompey giving him the opportunity to do that.

BLAIR EXCITED BY DEVELOPMENT PLANS

The young forward, who hails from Huddersfield, has shown his ability throughout his time in the academy, despite being out for the majority of  last season with a meniscus tear and attracted interest from a number of clubs including Serbian side Partizan Belgrade.

However, Blair is said to have chosen Pompey as manager John Mousinho has a proven track record of nurturing youth players, and is likely to have a similar impact on Blair, paving a pathway for regular first-team football and professional development.

As the youngster prepares to make the move down south, many will be interested to see if he can live up to the potential which he has shown at Liverpool and whether he can adapt quickly to life in the Championship.
