Why Gleison Bremer is the PERFECT Virgil van Dijk replacement for Liverpool

Liverpool might have found an ideal centre-back to replace Virgil van Dijk in the form of Gleison Bremer.

The Juventus has been instrumental in their remarkable run of 540 minutes without conceding a goal in Serie A. The Italian giants remain the only team in Europe's top five leagues to achieve this so far.

This impressive feat is a collective achievement, but Bremer stands out as one of the key reasons behind it. He has played every minute of those 540 minutes, providing a rock-solid defence in front of goalkeeper Mattia Perin.

Bremer leads Serie A in completed passes with 466, ranks first among centre-backs for tackles, and is tied for fourth place overall in the league.

Why Liverpool are interested in Gleison Bremer

Despite interest from Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Bremer chose to extend his contract with Juventus until 2029 during the summer.

Sources at Anfield Watch have confirmed Liverpool's interest in the Brazilian defender during this point, but he could certainly be an option down the line, too.

Bremer's defensive prowess, combined with his tactical awareness, has been vital to Juventus' success. He has seamlessly adapted to coach Thiago Motta's system, consistently delivering high-level performances.

He is also one of only twenty players in Europe's top five leagues to have played every minute since the season began.

This new season has been a strong start for Bremer, who is in his prime. With Liverpool potentially looking for a future replacement for Virgil van Dijk - whose contract expires next summer - Bremer is an appealing option.

Even if Van Dijk renews, he will be 34 in July. A long-term replacement will be needed, and Bremer ticks many boxes.

He possesses the qualities of an elite defender: exceptional strength, speed, and aerial dominance. His ability to read the game is outstanding, consistently winning one-on-one battles.

When he was at Torino, the club’s former interim coach Moreno Longo said of Bremer’s style in an interview with TuttoJuve:

"If I were managing one of those teams, I’d seek a defender like him.

"His physical presence is overwhelming, and he defends fearlessly, even when there’s 40-50 meters of space behind him. He plays with a dominating style. I would always want that."

Bremer is very much a modern centre-back, as often he makes offensive contributions, too. He is a real threat in the opposition’s box.

His sharp instincts in attacking situations, especially from corners and free-kicks, make him an ideal fit for the Premier League, while his leadership on the pitch and in the dressing room would surely be the icing on the cake for Liverpool.
