Giorgi Mamardashvili showed just why Liverpool decided to sign him following Georgia's victory over the Czech Republic.

The Georgian goalkeeper became the first signing of the summer for Liverpool. However, he will only join the club next summer, having been loaned back to Valencia for the 2024/25 campaign.

Mamardashvili has been labelled as Alisson Becker's successor and has already been tipped to become one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

The latter explains Liverpool's decision to act swiftly in order to secure his signature. But the Georgian also showed another reason while playing for Georgia on international duty on Saturday.

Giorgi Mamardashvili explains Liverpool's decision to sign him

It was a relatively quiet evening for Mamardashvili, with his Georgia side securing an emphatic 4-1 victory over Czechia in their first Nations League group game of the 2024/25 campaign.

With Mamardashvili having little to do in between the sticks, it was more his antics after the game that stood out.

The Liverpool goalkeeper joined in with the crowd in the celebrations and stood in the stands to cheer along with supporters.

Fabrizio Romano shared the images on his X account and how his actions highlight Mamardashvili's leadership qualities, which explains Liverpool's decision to sign him as this was a key factor they considered.

It's not the first time Anfield Watch has heard about Mamardashvili's leadership qualities. Mikha Gabechava, a Georgian scout, who worked for Mamardashvili's agency in the past, already highlighted this to our website last month.

Having seen Alisson lead by example at the back, Mamardashvili being able to do the same and also resonate with supporters is a huge bonus.

It seems like Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes may have already struck goal and soon Anfield will be able to welcome another fan favourite.
