Liverpool's signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is edging closer to completion according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Georgian international underwent medical tests in Spain yesterday ahead of his €35 million move from Valencia to Merseyside.

Mamardashvili will remain at Valencia on loan, joining up with Arne Slot's Reds in 2025.

Deal almost complete

According to Romano Liverpool and Valencia are now signing all the documents for the deal.

Medical tests were successfully completed yesterday and now the contracts are being signed.

This will be Liverpool's first senior signing of the summer transfer window.

Regarded as the perfect long-term successor to Alisson as Liverpool's number one option in between the sticks, his likely arrival does come with intrigue as the Brazilian is showing very little signs of slowing down.

Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has heaped praise on the club's recruitment team, going as far to reveal he was told about the club's plan to sign Mamardashvili before it became public knowledge.

"I think the club needs to prepare for the future," he said, as per the Liverpool Echo. "We are not going to last forever here, I am getting old! No, for a goalkeeper I am still young, I have a lot of energy and I still have much to give for this club and I want to give to the club as much as I can

Spanish journalist Hector Gomez said last week that the complex arrangement for Mamardashvili was underway between the two sides although certain elements such as wages needed to be smoothed over before the deal could be finalised.
