Mohamed Salah's future is up in the air. Given his current contract impasse and interest from Saudi Arabia, the Egyptian star could well depart Anfield for pastures new upon the expiry of his current deal at the end of the season.
Regardless of whether Salah leaves or not, Liverpool will still want to reinforce the right-winger position.
Salah isn't getting any younger and at 32-years-old, his prime years, even as the superhuman he is, are numbered.
That's why it's essential to bring in fresh blood who can succeed him in the future and also provide a breather for him when he needs a rest.
Liverpool make contact to sign Anis Hadj-Moussa
According to a report from Africa Foot, Liverpool are interested in signing Anis Hajd-Moussa from Feyenoord. The report claims Liverpool's head of recruitment Barry Hunter has made contact with Hadj-Moussa's close entourage including his agent.
It also claims Liverpool are now making plans to 'finalise' a €12m transfer for the summer window.
Hadj-Moussa only arrived at Feyenoord this summer and he's still getting settled at the club but he's made a very strong start, particularly in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old right-winger has made four goal contributions in five appearances in the competition scoring against Manchester City, Red Bull Salzburg and Sparta Prague. Meanwhile, in the Eredivisie he has four goal contributions in seven starts.
Most of his appearances have come off the bench for Feyenoord. He's been used as a sub 12 times and has made 10 starts.
Recently, though, he's been in red hot form and has started to establish himself as a starter, making seven goal contributions in his last 10 starts for the club in all competitions as per his Football Critic profile.
That's a sign that he could be an absolute gem, and if he continues in that form, the current price tag on him will undoubtedly rise.
But at this stage it's clear he's still just an impact player for the Dutch side.
Based on the report, Liverpool see potential in him and no doubt Arne Slot will have connections back at Feyenoord who will be able to send him reports of Hadj-Moussa's progress.
At the reported €12m fee, this feels like a bargain deal.
Hadj-Moussa is still young and has plenty of time to develop but he has already shown he can make an impact off the bench on the big stage.
As a left-footed right-winger, he could be the perfect understudy to Salah at Anfield, rather than a direct replacement for the Egyptian.
