Liverpool have entered a CRUCIAL 24-hour period in their reported chase for the Juventus forward Federico Chiesea.

Italian transfer supremo Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday night that Liverpool had made an approach for the Euro 2020 winner, who has been frozen out by Juventus under new head coach Thiago Motta.

Time is running out on a potential deal for the 26-year-old with the transfer window closing on Friday.

Chiesa is out of contract in Turin next year and is available for a knockdown price, with Italian reports suggesting that a deal could be done for as little as €12 million to €15m.

Matteo Moretto, another transfer expert, states that Chiesea’s salary at Anfield would be €4m to €5m a year, equivalent to just over £80,000 per week.

However, one late complicating factor in the deal could be the presence of Barcelona with the hard-up Catalans also seeking to add to their wing options.

Chiesa waiting on Barca

It’s believed that Chiesa wants to wait one more day to ascertain Barca’s willingness and ability to do a deal before moving on with other options, according to Gianluca di Marzio

Barca have had trouble registering Dani Olmo in their squad owing to a lack of financial head room, with Ilkay Gundogan among those leaving the club in order to make space in the wage bill.

Liverpool have been credited as suitors for Chiesa in many transfer windows past and Italian media suggested the Reds’ new transfer team had taken a fresh look at the winger during the Coppa Italia final

Juve freeze out Chiesa

Chiesa helped Juve to the Italian cup as well as ensuring a return to the Champions League. He scored nine goals in 33 Serie A games for the Old Lady but will have no part to play under Motta going forward.

It was reported that Juve wanted to tie Chiesa down to a new contract before Euro 2024 but he jetted off with his future up in the air.

It now appears that sporting director Richard Hughes’ pledge of finding ‘opportunistic’ signings is coming to pass with a player recently quoted as a €60m player available for only a fraction of that sum.
