Liverpool fans pick CLEAR winner from 3 centre-back targets - poll results
We asked Liverpool fans to pick from three centre-back targets this summer - and there was a clear winner. Can the Reds win the race to sign him, though?
Liverpool will almost certainly enter the market for a centre-back this summer. Joel Matip is coming to the end of his contract at Anfield, for one thing, and will need replacing.
But on top of that, the Reds' managerial targets tend to play with a back three. Liverpool would need extra squad depth to make that work.
And so there have been a lot of links to centre-backs ahead of the summer. Admittedly, you get that at Liverpool every summer but it's been particularly notable this year.
We picked three perhaps lesser-known targets for our Twitter poll this week, asking fans which they'd prefer to see at Anfield in 2024.
Ousmane Diomande was one of them, with the Sporting CP centre-back being a notable target as he plays under Ruben Amorim. Liverpool like Diomande, who would cost around £69m if Sporting demand his release clause.
Nottingham Forest's Murillo is another we asked about. Liverpool are in the mix there, with Forest perhaps being forced into sales this summer.
Willian Pacho of Frankfurt rounds off the options we gave. He's a more recent link, with the Reds reportedly looking at around £50m to pry him away from the Bundesliga.
So let's have a look at what people said.
Liverpool fans pick their centre-back
Of the three, Diomande was by far the favourite among fans. 56% had the 20-year-old Ivorian as their preferred signing, with Murillo a distant second on 27%. Pacho managed just 17%.
Though, it's also worth noting just how many people wanted Diomande's teammate, Goncalo Inacio, as an option. He's plainly the preferred centre-back signing among fans, even if many rate Diomande highly.
And if Amorim does become the manager this summer, both will become incredibly sensible targets for Liverpool. Maybe even sensible enough to send an awful lot of money to Sporting.
