Fabrizio Romano reveals Trent Alexander-Arnold Liverpool contract priority
Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract situation, with just over three months left before the defender can start negotiating with other clubs for a potential move away from Anfield.
The 25-year-old is in a similar situation to stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts are both due to expire next summer, leaving sporting director Richard Hughes in a difficult position as he tries to convince them to stay.
These three players have been pivotal to Liverpool's success over the past seven years, playing essential roles in their numerous achievements. Their quality is rare, and retaining them is crucial, but now the focus is on their futures.

Romano issues Trent update
The main worry surrounding Alexander-Arnold is potential interest from Real Madrid, the only club likely to lure him away. With Dani Carvajal nearing the end of his career, Real Madrid could view Alexander-Arnold as an ideal replacement, and the prospect of playing alongside his international teammate Jude Bellingham adds intrigue to the rumours.
However, despite speculation that Madrid are looking at Trent for a move in 2025, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has urged caution regarding these rumours.
"I can guarantee that for Trent, it's the same situation as Van Dijk and Salah," Romano said on his Youtube channel. "The priority is Liverpool. Conversations between Trent, his agents, and the club will happen to determine what comes next."
Romano clarified that no decisions have been made yet on any side. "Liverpool and the players are still taking their time to discuss, just like with Van Dijk and Salah."
He also acknowledged that while Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Alexander-Arnold's situation, as they often do with top players nearing the end of their contracts, there are no active negotiations.
"Real Madrid are always monitoring the best players, but it's not at the negotiation stage yet. We need to respect Liverpool’s process and give them time to negotiate and discuss," Romano added, reiterating that the priority for Alexander-Arnold remains with his current club.
In the meantime, Liverpool fans will hope for swift resolutions to these key contract discussions, knowing that the futures of their top players could shape the next era of the club.
