Juventus remain in pole position for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners according to Fabrizio Romano with plans under way in Turin to raise sufficient funds in order to complete a deal this summer.

Koopmeiners, 26, is under contract with Atalanta until 2027 and the club are reported to want a minimum €55 million cash deal for their midfield jewel in this transfer window.

Juventus are long-standing suitors of the Dutch international and the player is known to be keen on remaining in Serie A.

However, Thiago Motta’s side have fallen short of Atalanta’s asking price in previous negotiations and have got work to do before they can secure Arne Slot’s former AZ dynamo.

Juve bid an initial €45m including potential bonuses, according to SportItalia, but will need to add another €10m to that sum before the Europa League finalists consider a deal.

That means more outgoings for the Old Lady, with Federico Chiesa among the players linked with an exit.

New-look Juve midfield

The latest reports suggest that the winger will be sacrificed having failed to agree a new contract and Juve are prepared to offload several more names to make way for Koopmeiners.

Juve are restructuring their midfield this summer having clinched the signings of Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa and Khephren Thuram from Nice and would like to add to that duo with Koopmeiners.

It appears Liverpool are out of the race for a player who excelled under Slot in the Eredivisie having been linked with the 21-cap Netherlands international for several transfer windows.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now weighed in on the deal, revealing that he expects ONLY Juventus to come in for Koopmeiners and that a bid is imminent

Koopmeiners bid 'really soon'

“Despite some rumours about Liverpool entering the race for Teun Koopmeiners, my information is that the only club in negotiations for the Atalanta midfielder right now is Juventus,” Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column

“Of course it could change and we’ll see what happens in the next days, but Juventus have agreed terms with Koopmeiners, and he seems keen on staying in Serie A.

“Everything is agreed on the player side, and so now Juventus have to reach an agreement with Atalanta. Talks will start very soon after Juve already signed Khephren Thuram, which should be announced in the next days, while Douglas Luiz has also been confirmed as joining in another exciting move to strengthen the Juve midfield.

“Juventus are working on it with Koopmeiners, and we’re just waiting now for their first bid to Atalanta, which should come really soon.”
