Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are confident of securing a new contract for one of the club’s most important players.

Liverpool have been surrounded by constant rumours regarding the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent months, with all three now dangerously close to being able to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

Salah has been vocal about his disappointment in the lack of a contract offer from the club, especially due to his unbelievable form throughout the start of this season.

Virgil van Dijk will stay at Liverpool, as exclusively reported by Anfield Watch earlier this month. The Dutchman's agent has informed all interested parties that he won't be moving to them and that he'll sign a new contract with the Reds.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future, on the other hand, is still up in the air, with Real Madrid circling in the hope the 26-year-old leaves his boyhood club to team up with Jude Bellingham in Spain.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation surrounding the contract negotiations of another big Liverpool star.

Romano: Liverpool ‘confident’ of keeping star defender

Aside from the big three, Liverpool have a number of players that desperately need new contracts.

Conor Bradley, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Luis Diaz are among a number of stars that have contracts expiring in 2027, meaning the club have approximately 12 months until they are back in the same situation with a whole host of players.

But Romano has provided a positive update for Liverpool fans on the future of Ibrahima Konate, who is expected to sign a new deal shortly.

“Talks over [a] new deal for Ibrahima Konaté at Liverpool keep proceeding as planned,” Romano wrote in a post on X. “Club confident to get it sealed.

“#LFC management and coaching staff [are] happy with Ibrahima as they want him to be part of [a] long term project.”

Konate has been in brilliant form for Arne Slot’s side this season, having been a crucial part of the best defence in the league since his introduction at half-time of the opening game against Ipswich Town.

His recent injury is already causing Slot problems, with the cracks that appeared during the recent draw against Newcastle proof of his importance to the team.
