However, behind the scenes there has been activity. Anfield Watch exclusively reported that the Reds wanted to sign Stefanos Tzimas, but as we revealed Brighton are set to win the race for his signature due to the promise of more game time.

Anfield Watch also revealed that Liverpool's Global Talent Scouting Manager Kyle Woodbanks travelled to Venezuela for the U20 Copa Sudamericana.

We wrote about five players he could be keeping an eye on the tournament but have now discovered who one of the players the club's scouts are targeting.

Liverpool set sights on Deinner Ordonez

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool scouts are keeping a close eye on Ecuadorian wonderkid Deinner Ordonez. According to our sources the club's scouts were in attendance to watch Brazil vs Ecuador on Thursday night with their main focus being Ordonez.

The 15-year-old centre-back is the youngest player at the competition and he's the youngest to make an appearance at the tournament for over a decade.

Ordonez is a product of brilliant Independiente Del Valle academy that has produced the likes of Kendry Paez, Moises Caicedo, Piero Hincapie and Willian Pancho.

It is understood the club's scouts have a good working relationship with Independiente del Valle and hugely admire Ordonez.

A tall and already physically powerful defender, Ordonez is comfortable on the ball and despite being predominantly right-footed he is comfortable playing as a left-sided defender, which is where he has been playing for Ecuador in the U20 Sudamericana.

Born in 2009, Ordonez does not turn 16 years old until October, but he's already been involved in training sessions with Independiente del Valle's first team.

It's understood the club has high hopes about him and some in Ecuador regard him as possibly the biggest talent the country has produced in the last decade - even bigger than Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez.

Liverpool would have to wait in order to be able to sign Ordonez until his 18th birthday, which will not happen until 2027. He will only be able to join the Reds in January 2028, which is the first transfer window that will be open after his 18th birthday.

But should Liverpool wish to pursue a move, it's possible to get a deal wrapped up for Ordonez sooner and there is recent precedence for this.

Chelsea moved to sign Paez from Independiente del Valle back in 2023, when he was just 16 years old, agreeing to sign him upon his 18th birthday. That means he will only be linking up with the Blues later this summer - two years after Chelsea's agreement.

A similar deal can be arranged for Ordonez, although at this stage it is expected Liverpool will continue to monitor his progress first, rather than arrange a transfer that would only come to fruition three years down the line.
