It's not going to be an easy deal for Liverpool to pull off. PSG are also interested in the winger as well as a handful of other clubs from around Europe and the Premier League.
But Liverpool are exploring opportunistic moves in the January window and this is the kind of opportunistic deal that makes sense.
Kvaratskhelia has been on Liverpool's radar for a long time and he is well liked by the club's recruitment team.
Just exactly why? Anfield Watch sat down with Kvaratskhelia's former analysis coach at Dinamo Batumi, Gela Davitadze, to find out.
Anfield Watch: First of all Gela, what was Kvaratskhelia like to work with in training sessions? What was his attitude like?
Gela Davitadze: He was always very motivated in training. Khvicha would be the the first in the training centre and he would be the last to leave. Sometimes, when we had a morning session, he would come back to train in the evening. He was always very eager to develop and improve.
Anfield Watch: What kind of player is he in the dressing room and away from the dressing room?
Gela Davitadze: Khvicha always wanted to learn. Before the games, he would always watch the opposition defenders who would play against him, and he studied the defenders’ weak side and stuff like this. He would always ask me questions about the opponents’ weaknesses.
He has a strong mentality. He always wanted to win, even in the training sessions. He has a great desire to win at all costs. Because of this desire he became a leader and was always able to motivate his teammates around him.
Away from the pitch, he is just a humble guy, who doesn't speak much.
Anfield Watch: What do you think is his best attribute?
Gela Davitadze: His best quality is his hard work, he is never satisfied with himself and always wants to improve. He is also a very creative player and a great leader.
His words were always important pre-game and after. He always encouraged everyone and his words in the dressing room were very important for the players. All the players listened to him. He is a natural leader on the pitch and in the dressing room as well.
Anfield Watch: What makes him so good in one vs one situations?
Gela Davitadze: As I said, he is a very creative player. He is the best in one vs one situations because nobody can read his actions. Not one opponent can fully defend against him because his playing style is always different. He has a lot of dribbling options in his skill set.
He also studies his opponents a lot. We spent time with him analysing the full-backs he would take on before we faced them and he tries to learn their weaknesses.
Most importantly, he already has a plan in mind about what he is going to do before he gets the ball.
Anfield Watch: Do you think he would suit the Premier League?
Gela Davitadze: I think he is perfect for the Premier League. I think moving to England would be the best solution for him in his career at the moment.
Khvicha has a special mentality that will help him make it in England. He will not stop. He will always continue to develop and adapt his game. I believe in the Premier League he will become one of the most dangerous wingers in world football.
Anfield Watch: Liverpool are heavily linked with him at the moment, does he suit Arne Slot's style of play?
Gela Davitadze: As a coach I watch Premier League games and I know Arne Slot's philosophies, I think he’ll be a suitable footballer for Slot. He will fit in perfectly with Liverpool because they need a winger like him. But he can also give Slot more options because as well as playing as a wide winger, he can also play as a false winger or behind the striker.
