This puts Liverpool in a precarious situation with still no contract agreed and none on the horizon for the Egyptian.

It remains to be seen whether or not Hughes can strike a deal. But now there are plenty of clubs interested in trying to get Salah as well.

FC Basel release Salah statement

It's no surprise clubs are interested in the Liverpool winger. Salah has been by far and away the best player on the planet so far this season.

He is carrying this Liverpool team on his shoulders and honestly the only surprise is that the Reds have not yet tied him down to a new deal.

But with rumours rife over Salah's future, one of his former clubs, FC Basel has pitched in with a very facetious post on X announcing that they would be welcome to have him back any time.

Salah spent two years at Basel and it was his first move to Europe after leaving Egypt back in 2012.

During his time in Switzerland he was very close to moving to Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers, but instead it was Jose Mourinho and Chelsea who landed him.

That move never worked out but in the end Salah found his way to Anfield.

Clearly, there is no chance of him returning to Basel. However, at this rate there is a strong possibility he won't be returning to Liverpool after the end of this season.

Basel's post is another reminder of that. The clock is ticking for Richard Hughes.
