Liverpool transfers: Feyenoord defender David Hancko admits to Arne Slot talks

Feyenoord defender David Hancko has revealed he has SPOKEN to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot since the season ended but does not expect to move to Anfield alongside his former boss.

Hancko, 26 emerged as one of Slot’s favourite players throughout his three year spell in charge of the Rotterdam side.

The left-sided centre back won an Eredivisie title during the 2022/23 season and added a KNVB Beker (Dutch cup) to his collection last term.

The Slovakian played 48 times for Feyenoord last season, scoring seven goals and adding three assists.

The vast majority of his football for his club side has come at centre back but Hancko also excelled at left back for his national team at the European Championship.

Slovakia made it all the way through to the last 16, where their interest in the competition was ended after extra time against England.

Before the tournament Hancko was backed for a summer transfer with Liverpool named as potential suitors.

PSG and Atletico want Hancko

The Reds have got issues in defence since Joel Matip’s contract expired, requiring cover for Andy Robertson as well as a long-term heir to Virgil van Dijk.

Reports linking the club with Hancko go back to Jurgen Klopp’s days with the player’s agent revealing earlier this year that talks had taken place with Liverpool over a potential deal.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to be interested - they employ compatriot and defensive partner Milan Skriniar - and Atletico Madrid were last week reported to have begun talks

The stopper is expected to fetch around €40 million in the market with his partner, tennis star Kristýna Pliskova, revealing a few weeks ago that she expected his future to be sorted soon.

Hancko has now admitted that he has held talks with Arne Slot since he left Feyenoord for Anfield but sensationally claimed that Liverpool are NOT in the market for a player of his profile.

Those remarks come despite Liverpool links with left-sided defenders such as Riccardo Calafiori, Levi Colwill, Goncalo Inacio and Piero Hincapie.

Hancko: Liverpool don't want players in my position

“I think that in three years he will be named as one of the best coaches in the world,” Hancko told Voetbal International.

“I can see that happening, because I know what he did with us and now he has the biggest platform to show that. I have a lot of confidence in him and his staff.

“And I don't express that appreciation because I hope that I will go with him to Liverpool, because that is unlikely.

“I have spoken to him a few times after the end of the season, but I don't think they are looking for a player in my position, so I don't think a transfer to Liverpool will happen, but I wish him the best of luck, he really is a fantastic coach.”

Hancko arrived at Feyenoord from Sparta Prague back in 2022 following an unhappy spell in Serie A with Fiorentina. He is under contract at De Kuip until 2028.
