Liverpool legend believes Darwin Nunez will benefit MOST from Arne Slot arrival

It promises to be a summer of renewal at Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp departing his role as manager after nine years and Arne Slot coming in to replace him as head coach.

There is plenty of movement behind the scenes too with a plethora of Klopp’s key staff leaving and Richard Hughes coming on board as sporting director

The Reds’ season is heading for a disappointing conclusion and after Klopp’s final game in charge - against Wolves at Anfield on Sunday - it will be time to take stock and turn to the future.

The form of many of Liverpool’s players has tailed off towards the end of the season, particularly up front where the forwards have been struggling in front of goal

Aside from Cody Gakpo, who is finishing this term in decent form, the Liverpool frontline hasn’t been firing on all cylinders of late.

Mohamed Salah has been criticised time and again for his output while question marks persist over the future of Colombian winger Luis Diaz amid indifferent displays.

Jurgen Klopp appears to have lost faith in Darwin Nunez in recent matches too, starting four of the last five Premier League games on the bench.

Things came to a head following his missed chances against Tottenham last week, leading to a Instagram deletion spree

The Uruguayan hitman has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks, although there remains uncertainty over whether or not the Catalans can furnish such a high-cost operation

Nonetheless, Darwin is one of the performers who could benefit MOST from a change of manager if he sticks around for the regeneration of the team, according to one Liverpool great.

Steve Nicol won four English top-flight titles during his time at Anfield, adding three FA Cups as well as the European Cup.

He made almost 500 appearances for Liverpool across a 13-season spell, winning the FWA’s Footballer of the Year award in 1989.

The ex-defender believes that Klopp’s exit aligned with Slot’s arrival will spell a fresh start for the 24-year-old, who could well take advantage of the Dutch coach’s new ideas.

Nicol thinks Darwin can impress Slot

“It’s probably going to be best for somebody like Darwin Nunez because it's a complete fresh start,” Nicol told ESPN

“There might be a little tinkering with how Liverpool play that can change a lot of things on the field.

“He's the one that will probably benefit as much as anybody from the change of manager because he'll be coming out for that first training session thinking: ‘Right I can impress this guy and if I can impress this guy what happened the last couple of years pales into insignificance’.

“The only thing I can guarantee you is that Darwin Nunez from the very first day they get back will be doing every single thing he can and more to impress Arne Slot because it is a new start for him.”
