Liverpool told £75m star WILL move to Anfield
If injuries have taught Arne Slot anything this season, it’s that Liverpool need a new centre back.
The last time the Reds signed one for the first team was in 2021, when Ibrahima Konate joined. Since then, Joel Matip has left and Liverpool have promoted from within, with Jarell Quansah the most recent backup option to make a mark.

In that time, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams have also featured in a defence that is built around Virgil van Dijk.
While Anfield Watch understands that Van Dijk is going to renew his contract at Liverpool, he will be 34 this year and Sporting Director Richard Hughes is looking for new options to freshen up the defence.
One of those is Marc Guehi, who is reportedly eager to join the Reds AND is willing to wait for the opportunity.
Marc Guehi holding out for Liverpool
A report from journalist Alan Nixon says that Guehi is now holding out for a move to Anfield, despite interest from other clubs.
The England international was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer, but is also a target for both Newcastle and Chelsea.
A January move is an option, according to Nixon, but Guehi is willing to wait until this summer to join. Last summer, Crystal Palace were looking for £75m for his signature, as per TEAMTalk, and are expected to push for a similar fee in January, so by waiting Liverpool would benefit from his value dropping as there would be 12 months remaining on his contract by the summer.
Signing Guehi would be an interesting move for Liverpool. He generally plays on the left side of the central defensive pairing when in a two, which is where Van Dijk has played his entire career.
If Liverpool keep Van Dijk beyond this season, then Guehi would be looking at a number of minutes on the bench as there is no chance of him replacing the captain.
However, at 24 he is also perfectly placed to be entering his prime as Van Dijk reaches the end of his career, so there could be space for both at the club in the coming years.
