Impressive Jaros display could push Liverpool into SHOCK Kelleher transfer decision
Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros made his full debut for the club in Wednesday's 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over Brighton.
The 23-year-old had featured from the bench in the Reds’ 1-0 win over Crystal Place in the Premier League, but he received the nod to start as Liverpool continued their defence of the EFL Cup.
Jaros stepped up admirably and could not be blamed for either of Brighton’s goals and the Czech’s impressive performance leaves Arne Slot with a transfer conundrum.

Current first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker is out injured and isn’t expected to return until after the international break in November and as such Caoimhin Kelleher has become the starting ‘keeper for Slot’s side.
The Irishman is currently fulfilling his desire to play first-team football but when Alisson returns it will presumably be back to the bench for Kelleher, and that could be a problem.
Kelleher’s desire to play regularly
Although he has been a dependable backup to Alisson for a number of years now, Kelleher has not been shy about his desire to be a true No.1 option, even if that means leaving Anfield.
A number of teams were interested in signing the 25-year-old shot-stopper in the summer but Liverpool believe they didn’t receive a suitable offer for the man that Jurgen Klopp once described as ‘the best No.2 in the world’.
Now, following Jaros’ impressive performance on Wednesday, it could be suggested that the Czech is a suitable backup for Alisson and a move away for Kelleher could be facilitated in January.
Although Jaros has only played 100 minutes for the Reds, and this suggestion may be a little premature, he is certainly a potential solution to the hole that would be left if Kelleher were to force a move away from Merseyside.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper department
As well as the injured Alisson, whose return isn’t too far off, Liverpool also have Georgian ‘keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili who is set to arrive in the summer of 2025.
This will boost Slot’s options between the sticks even further and a departure for Kelleher is almost certain in the summer if it doesn’t happen before.
Come the summer Kelleher will only have a year left on his contract according to Football Transfers, and so Liverpool may get the best deal for their long-time backup if they sell in January.
If Alisson can remain fit and Jaros can continue to put in performances like he did against Brighton then the Reds’ will be in safe hands but if the Brazilian’s injury problems persist, and Kelleher is sold, it could fall to Jaros to step up for Liverpool once again.
