Liverpool star Kelleher stuck in transfer limbo as offers fail to materialise

Ahead of the new 2024/25 Premier League season, Liverpool could look to sell goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher but any outgoing transfer looks set to be held up.

Football Insider have stated that The Reds would like to move Kelleher on even though he stepped in plenty of times during last season with 26 appearances to his name.

Kelleher has been a fan favourite at Liverpool whilst being understudy to Alisson Becker as he played a pivotal role in two League Cup finals that The Reds won under Jurgen Klopp.

He is now 25 years old though and is still behind Alisson who is one of the best in his position so it doesn’t look like Kelleher will replace him anytime soon.

So for his sake after a successful time at Anfield, it looks like a move away makes sense for all parties but even though Liverpool would be happy to sanction a sale they are concerned about a lack of numbers in the goalkeeper department.

LIVERPOOL IN MARKET FOR GOALKEEPER

It is no secret that Kelleher wants to be a first choice whether that be at Liverpool or elsewhere so a move is certainly on the cards this summer with his national manager wanting it to happen.

The big issue for the Republic of Ireland international is that no offers have come in for him right now so he may not have the option to leave after all.

Kelleher was linked with Celtic earlier on in the transfer window as they were looking to replace Joe Hart as he announced his retirement but they opted for experience by signing Kasper Schmeichel.

The £25 million-rated star wasn’t involved in Liverpool’s first pre-season game against Preston North End which does hint at the fact he could be exiting as Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies got a half each.

Those two could be vying to be the second-choice goalkeeper under Arne Slot should Kelleher leave however the pair do have limited experience.

Liverpool have been linked with several goalkeepers so far this window with England under 21 internationals Anthony Patterson and James Trafford the names that have been mentioned.

So one thing that is for sure is if Kelleher leaves Liverpool will be in the market for a new number two and they seem to already be searching for that player.
