Liverpool transfers: Liverpool expected to bid for Serie A star Koopmeiners
Liverpool are expected to ‘knock on the door’ for Atalanta ace Teun Koopmeiners, with an offer anticipated to arrive in the coming days according to Tuttomercato.
A move for the Dutchman, if Liverpool do pursue a deal, may prove to be difficult with the midfielder’s will being to sign for Italian giants Juventus.
The Turin side however are unwilling to go beyond €40 million to €45m for the midfielder with Atalanta standing firm on their €60m asking price.
The Reds will be hoping Koopmeiners’ previous experience working under Arne Slot at AZ Alkmaar will help tempt him into a move to Merseyside.
Atalanta’s preference would be to sell their man to the Premier League but it’s believed Koopmeiners’ desire could make a big difference on who the Bergamo club strikes an agreement with.
An impressive 23/24 campaign for Koopmeiners
Koopmeiners netted 15 times and recorded seven assists in 51 appearances for Atalanta last campaign. His attacking output and versatility across the midfield is proving to be quite attractive to some of Europe’s elite.
He stood out in Atalanta’s surprise triumph over Liverpool across the two legs of last season’s Europa League quarter final.
The Italian side defeated the Reds 3-0 at Anfield before falling short in what ended up being a consolation 1-0 win for Jurgen Klopp’s men a week later.
A quiet summer at Anfield thus far
Liverpool are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues yet to sign a player this summer, but August is expected to heat up for the Premier League side.
It’s been a summer that has seen Liverpool be patient on bringing in new faces and Arne Slot’s reign is starting with him assessing what he has at his disposal and getting over his ‘total football’ philosophy to his players before delving into the market.
