Liverpool transfers: Arne Slot asks Reds to activate €60m clause for Dani Olmo

Liverpool are set for a transfer overhaul this summer with a new recruitment team including incoming sporting director Richard Hughes and FSG’s new CEO of Football Michael Edwards taking the reins.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have been linked with a potential Anfield exit with Barcelona at the front of the queue for South American duo Nunez and Diaz

That’s if they can afford it with very little budget headroom at Camp Nou and club president Joan Laporta all out of financial levers to pull.

Barcelona’s financial predicament means they are also set to lose out on a dream reunion with their one-time La Masia academy graduate Dani Olmo and Liverpool are reportedly now ready to swoop in.

The RB Leipzig playmaker left Barca’s youth ranks a decade ago to make his way at Dinamo Zagreb, establishing himself as a first-team player in Croatia before making a switch to the Bundesliga in 2020.

The now-26-year-old has shone for the Red Bulls, playing close to 148 games and scoring 29 goals, winning two DFB Pokal (German cup) titles in the process. The Spanish midfield schemer has also provided another 34 assists.

He was man of the match in the DFB Super Cup at the start of the season, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich.

Olmo has missed a good percentage of this season due to a complicated shoulder injury but looked more like his old self as the campaign drew to a close.

He’s scored eight times and given five assists in 25 games overall this season, operating expertly in tandem with another reported Reds transfer target in the shape of Xavi Simons

RB agreed a new deal with Olmo last summer, extending to 2027, and it contains a €60 million release clause.

Olmo to be a standout star at Euro 2024

That is a little too rich for Barca and reports in Catalonia now suggest that Arne Slot has had his say about bringing Olmo to Anfield.

The Feyenoord coach is about to be unveiled as the successor to Jurgen Klopp and according to El Nacional he has already requested that Liverpool’s decision makers activate Olmo’s clause.

The Spain international has grown into a key performer for the national team, winning the UEFA Nations League title and starring in a recent friendly win against Brazil, and is expected to be a standout star for la Roja at Euro 2024.

Liverpool would be getting a versatile player, capable of playing as No.8, No.10 and either side of a frontman and he would certainly be a landmark signing to kick off the post-Jurgen Klopp era.
