Liverpool transfers: Anderson Arroyo leaves after six years and ZERO games

Colombian defender Anderson Arroyo is set to depart Liverpool on a permanent basis after spending SIX years at the club without making a single appearance. 

Arroyo, 24, joined back in January 2018 as a teenager and was immediately loaned to Mallorca owing to work permit issues. 

The Colombian signed for the Reds from Fortaleza CEIF in his homeland aged 18 after impressing club scouts, and then embarking on EIGHT separate loan spells away from Merseyside. 

The versatile stopper can play centre back, as well as right back and left back, spent time with Genk in Belgium before moving for another loan spell in Czechia with FK Mladá Boleslav.

He has since represented five clubs in the Spanish lower divisions starting with Salamanca in 2020/21 and then moving on to Mirandes, Alaves and Andorra.

In winter of last season Arroyo was recalled from his loan at the Gerard Pique-owned Andorra and joined Burgos in LaLiga 2, making 16 appearances and scoring once as his side finished ninth. 

And now, according to Diario de Burgos, the ex-Colombia under-20 and under-23 international is finally set to complete a permanent move, bringing an end to his six-year association with Liverpool without a single appearance to his name at any level.

Arroyo will sign a three-year contract with Burgos although the report states Liverpool still need to tie up a few details on the terms of the deal. 

Arroyo lacks UK work permit

He signed a new Liverpool contract back in 2022 and it’s reported he’s got one year left on that deal. It means Liverpool will earn a fee on the South American although it’s not expected to be a significant one. 

Arroyo finally gets the chance to settle following a nomadic career in Europe to this point with no realistic prospect of making the breakthrough with his parent club. 

He was part of the Alaves squad which achieved LaLiga promotion through the playoffs in 2023 although he never played in the top flight. 

Had he featured in LaLiga or else become a senior Colombia international he would have stood a better chance at earning a UK work permit.
