Former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return to the Premier League just a year after his Anfield departure.

The former Red was released by the club last year, joining Turkish club Besiktas on a three-year deal.

However his season was again impacted by injury resulting in limited game time for the 31-year-old

Brentford in the running

Journalist Sercan Dikme reported earlier this month that Besiktas held positive talks with the Englishman about terminating his contract.

Now there are reports that Brentford and Ajax were in the running to sign the midfielder.

Dikme claims the Bees and the Eredivisie side have ‘started negotiations’ with the former Arsenal man. He adds the two clubs are ‘about to make offers’, without specifying the details of their proposals.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made 146 appearances for Liverpool during his six-season stay in Merseyside, winning the Champions League and Premier League, but faced some tough battles with injury including a cruciate ligament tear that saw sidelined for almost a year.

He made 30 appearances in his debut season in Turkey, however a thigh muscle injury saw him sidelined for almost 100 days between December and March.

The player is said to be looking for a return to the Premier League as Besiktas look to restructure their squad and reduce their wage bill.

The Southampton academy product didn’t ever really find his feet in Turkey and was never able to nail down a place in the starting XI.

However he did manage to score four goals while racking up an assist for another.

It is unclear whether or not Thomas Frank's side expect to sign the player on a free but either way they can expect a battle with Ajax for his signature.
