From Luis Diaz to Cody Gakpo in recent years, we know Liverpool will only strike on a deal if they are absolutely certain it's the right thing to do and if a long-term target becomes available.
That's why the Reds considered going for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month before his transfer to Paris Saint Germain.
But it's not just the Georgian who is reportedly available. There's another Liverpool target who could leave his club for a bargain price this month.
And Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a move.
Why Liverpool are ready to strike Rayan Cherki deal as he reaches agreement
Rayan Cherki is a French prospect who is very highly rated and who has been on Liverpool's radar for a while.
Capable of playing both as a no.10 and as a winger he would fit into several positions in Arne Slot's system and at 21-years-old he has plenty of years to improve his game before he is the finished article.
Signing a player of his ilk should be a no brainer for the Reds, especially after the latest developments around his future which would suggest Richard Hughes is ready to make a move for the French winger.
According to Fichajes, Cherki has reached an 'agreement' with his club Lyon to leave for just €22m this month.
The report claims Liverpool are ready to pay that fee in order to land his services and are currently leading the race to sign him.
Given what an incredible talent Cherki is that fee makes him seem like an absolute bargain. He's a player who loves to take his opponents on one vs one and who can really make a difference on the pitch.
It's the kind of low-risk transfer that the Reds are renowned for and it the kind of opportunity Liverpool would absolutely be exploring on the market.
It remains to be seen whether Fichajes' report is accurate, but it would not be a surprise to us if the Reds were indeed in the running to sign Cherki.
