Liverpool’s midfield three this season has been a breath of fresh air in Arne Slot’s first full season in charge.

Each player has stepped up their game, hoping to impress the Dutchman and secure a permanent starting eleven position.

This is evident through the performances of Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones. Slot has unlocked something in the pair which wasn’t evident before. A stream of confidence oozes from them both.

Wataru Endo out of favour

The Reds manager therefore has the tough but privileged decision of deciding who should start each game in the talented midfield .

However, one player that seems to be out of favour completely this season is Wataru Endo.

The Japanese international was brilliant under Jurgen Klopp last season and was lauded as 'unbelievable' for his performance against Manchester City last season by Peter Croach on his That Peter Crouch Podcast.

“I thought second half they looked rattled. I never see that with City,” said Crouch. “They might lose or draw, but they still dominate the game completely and they just didn’t at the weekend. I thought that was credit to Liverpool.

“Quansah kept Haaland quiet, Endo was unbelievable in central midfield, there was so many plus points.”

But the 31-year-old has been neglected by Slot, only playing 26 minutes so far in the Premier League.

Bought by Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2023, he has been a solid servant to the club and stepped into the defensive midfield role when needed.

In his first season, he started 20 games for the Reds in the league, recovering the ball 3.7 times per game and providing a strong presence in the middle of the park.

But his impact so far this season has been limited only starting in both Carabao Cup ties and it seems the Japanese international could be on his way out soon.

Endo wants out

According to CaughtOffside, Endo is actively looking for a new club with several European teams eyeing up his situation.

AC Milan have shown interest in the midfielder due to his “versatility and on-field performances. The Italian club believe that his skills will add significant value to their squad. He is likely to be available for a reasonable price as well and he could be a quality addition to the Milan midfield.”

Moreover, fellow Premier League clubs such as Wolves, Fulham and Ipswich have shown interest and a move may seem attractive to the Reds number 3 as he strives for more competitive game time.

It seems as though Slot doesn’t see Endo as part of his future plans.

But if he does decide to call it time on his career at Liverpool, he will be fondly remembered by fans for his commitment to the badge whenever he made an appearance.
