To add to the worries, there have been several rumours floating around that Trent is very keen on a move to Real Madrid with Arne Slot remaining incredibly secretive on the future of his player.

Now, a former Red has given his verdict on his move and it hints at the idea that it won’t be WILL Trent move to Real Madrid, but WHEN.

Nicol signals the end of Trent's time as a Red

Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol highlighted that the Liverpool number 66 "looks like a Real Madrid player" and that he "fits the philosophy."

Steve here is addressing how Madrid love to play attacking football and that with Trent in the team, this will only elevate their forward play to a whole new level.

He continues by saying, "it looks inevitable. If he wanted to stay at Anfield, the contract would have been done and dusted."

This is a cause for concern. It does beg the question of where does the England international's loyalties lie? If he wanted to remain at Liverpool, the deal would have been signed instantly without all this mess; he must have been offered something initially and turned it down.

This is supported by Nicol who finishes by stating: "I do not believe Liverpool have not approached his people or himself with an offer."

Slot comments on Trent

The situation looks bleak. Slot further commented on the contract situation involving Trent in the Chelsea pre-match press conference today.

"There will always be talks about our players. He was and is very important for our attacking part of the game. Like the others there is room for improvement."

Slot seems to be giving nothing away. He further praised Alexander-Arnold for his England performances but also singled out his defensive protégé Conor Bradley.

‘He is going to have a bright future, he is a very good player. Very good players is what we need here at Liverpool.’

Of course, fans can be excited about the prospect of Bradley improving and bursting into the squad more regularly.

However, these comments could also signal Trent’s time is up and Conor’s has only just begun. The case remains a mystery but for all involved at Liverpool, they will be hoping pen meets with paper and a new deal for the Reds defensive star is secured.
