Liverpool transfer news: Reds target waiting for Anfield move

Reds transfer target Goncalo Inacio is reportedly waiting for a move to a big club like Liverpool as interest continues to grow in the Sporting CP defender. 

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for centre-back Goncalo Inacio amid the expectation that they will strengthen the heart of their defence in coming transfer windows.

While the Reds are unlikely to make any signings in the January transfer window, rumours linking Jurgen Klopp's side with a shiny new central defender refuse to go away.

Inacio, who has been touted with a move to a number of clubs, would be an impressive acquisition, and he currently has a £52m release clause in his Sporting contract.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Inacio rejected an offer from Newcastle United in the past as he waits for a move to a bigger club that is more likely to fight for titles.

One of the clubs named were Liverpool, suggesting that Inacio would be open to an Anfield switch. However, Arsenal and Real Madrid are also named, meaning the Reds face stiff competition for the 22-year-old's signature if they decide to pursue him further.

Manchester United are another club that have been linked with the five-cap Portugal international.

Liverpool have sent scouts to watch Inacio in recent months and they would be foolish not to consider a player of such talent and potential.

Having said that, Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on Inacio's Sporting teammate Ousmane Diomande, the 20-year-old currently representing Ivory Coast at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The high-potential youngster has a £69m release clause in his deal with the Portuguese side and is a player the Reds have been frequently monitoring.
