Liverpool can cancel their £50m transfer talks. Ryan Gravenberch is the man to stick with.

Liverpool have enjoyed an incredible improvement with Ryan Gravenberch this season. The Dutchman felt like an afterthought at the end of the previous campaign, struggling to get into the team.

In fact, do you remember the links to Galatasaray? Even if there was never anything in it, his stock was low enough that Turkish outlets felt he was a reasonable player to link.

Now, of course, Gravenberch looks a world apart from the player he was. He actually looks like one of the world's very best midfielders, if we're being entirely honest, and his performances this season have been a revelation.

So please, Liverpool - don't think about replacing him. Cancel the £50m talks.

Gravenberch above all

The crazy thing about Liverpool's midfield this season is that they've been able to play three players who were all known as attacking midfielders last season. The Reds played Gravenberch, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai against Chelsea and won.

Gravenberch and Jones look like a world-beating partnership. They break the lines beautifully, have physicality and energy - they've got so much on the ball.

Defensively, neither are known as destroyers. Gravenberch, in particular, finds himself as the deepest man frequently and is asked to do a lot but it works.

Still, the temptation will be there for Liverpool to find a 'true' defensive midfielder. That would explain the links to Aurelian Tchouameni and how the Reds are supposedly in talks.

But we don't believe anything should come of them.

Tchouameni vs Gravenberch

Tchouameni is a very good player, potentially a world-class one. But he hasn't set the world alight at Real Madrid and there's a reason he's the one they're willing to move on.

He's not particularly great at controlling the game from deep, nor breaking through the pressing lines. He could be - but Liverpool would need to rejuvenate him a little.

Is there any point in that? Gravenberch already does all of the difficult stuff incredibly well and given he's still only 22, he should only get better at the defensive work.

Positioning, timing, anticipation - it's all stuff the role needs but naturally improves as a player gains experience.

If you ask us, Gravenberch has the higher ceiling in the role and he's currently playing at an incredibly high level. It would be £50m to get a specialist but one who could upset the currently balance.

And that's just not worth the risk. Embrace Gravenberch's potential. Ignore the need for a specialist.
