In shock new reports circulating this weekend, Liverpool have been linked with a transfer that could make waves across the Premier League.

According to the Express, the Reds have their sights on former Everton forward Anthony Gordon, who has been impressing since his move to Newcastle at the end of the January transfer window in 2023 for a reported ยฃ45 million.

Gordon's stellar performances, resulting in 23 goal contributions in over 60 appearances, have earned him widespread recognition and a call-up to the England squad.

Reds interested in 'Liverpool fan' Anthony Gordon

Despite playing for their city rivals across Stanley Park, the 23-year-old Scouser reportedly grew up as a Liverpool fan.

In fact, Gordon joined Everton as an 11-year-old following his release from Liverpool.

However, any attempt from the Reds to lure Gordon back to his hometown club this summer would come with a hefty price tag, with Newcastle reportedly demanding close to ยฃ100 million for the man recently named their Player of the Season.

If such a move were to materialise, such a significant investment from Liverpool could have a knock-on effect on their rivals Arsenal.

Arsenal want Alexander Isak

Should Liverpool sign Gordon from Newcastle, this could disrupt Arsenal's plans to sign striker Alexander Isak. This is because Newcastle would no longer have to offload players to balance their books amid Financial Fair Play pressures.

With Gordon potentially commanding a higher transfer fee than Isak's initial ยฃ63 million cost, Newcastle could choose to prioritise selling the former Everton man over Isak to fund their summer business.

The decision facing Newcastle's hierarchy is further complicated by Manchester City's rumoured interest in Bruno Guimaraes, another high-value target valued at around ยฃ100 million.

Should City enter the fray with their financial might, both Arsenal and Liverpool could find themselves in a precarious position, risking the loss of their summer transfer targets.
