Liverpool are looking at opportunistic deals in the January transfer window and Hughes is reportedly eyeing one of the biggest opportunities of this month.
On top of that, he's also pursuing another incredible forward in the summer transfer window to complete what could be the greatest double deal of them all.
How Richard Hughes is putting in motion Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen double deal
News broke on Thursday night that Liverpool have begun to pursue Kvaratskhelia after he became available on the market, with the Reds long-term admirers of the Georgian international.
Those reports suggested Napoli are willing to part ways with Kvaratskhelia for as little as €80m, which would be a very decent fee for a winger who is one of the best in European football at the moment.
PSG and a number of other clubs are also exploring the possibility of signing Kvaratskhelia. But Liverpool have had him on their radar for a while and it seems they are very much firmly in the conversation.
And they are not just in the conversation for Kvaratskhelia, they are also in talks with one of his former teammates, Victor Osimhen.
Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that Liverpool have eyed the Nigerian forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, as their ideal replacement for Darwin Nunez.
That is a deal Liverpool intend to pursue regardless of whether they get Kvaratskhelia or not with Osimhen having a €75m release clause and also being admired for a long time by Michael Edwards.
It could mean Hughes could reunite one of the deadliest duos in the Serie A in recent memory.
Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen helped Napoli win the scudetto for the first time in 30 years back in the 2022/23 season. Together they contributed to a whopping 108 goals over the course of two seasons.
They also had 15 joint-goal participations, which is the most either of them have had with any of their teammates during their careers.
Looking at those numbers the prospect of Hughes bringing them both in is absolutely mouth watering. And the plan is now in motion.
Liverpool now just have to wait to find out whether their endeavours will reap the rewards. For €155m, Hughes could pull off the double deal of the century.
