A former Liverpool ace is reportedly eyeing up an Anfield return after being told he can leave his current club.

Raheem Sterling was heavily criticised after his team released a statement after he was left out of Chelsea's squad ahead of their opening game against Manchester City.

Head coach Enzo Maresca told Sterling he should leave Chelsea for more playing time, with the club removing the number seven and gifting it to new signing Pedro Neto.

Where will Sterling go next?

It was thought Sterling would be part of Maresca's plans which quickly changed after signing Pedro Neto.

The 29-year-old is almost certain to leave the North London side before the end of the transfer window, with many wondering where is next club will be.

According to Spanish transfer website Fichajes, Chelsea are in talks with Serie A giants Juventus over a move, however the forward would prefer to stay in the Premier League.

Sterling is apparently eyeing up a return to Anfield.

He came through the ranks at Liverpool and was tipped to become an important player for the reds.

However a standoff over contracts led to him joining Manchester City in 2015.

Should Liverpool sign the winger?

The Kingston-born winger is said to have fond memories on his Liverpool career and would relish the opportunity to return to Merseyside.

It is not know whether or not the club has an interest in re-signing Sterling, however it appears unlikely that Arne Slot and Richard Hughes would be keen to get a deal over the line.

With Luis Diaz and now seemingly Cody Gakpo after a successful campaign at the Euros both in the left-wing role it is difficult to see where Sterling would fit into Slot's side.
